Specialty Materials and Toray Advanced Composites continue their successful commercial partnership with a growing portfolio of high-performance prepregs for aerospace and sporting goods markets. The unique advantage of pairing boron fiber with TORAYCA™ carbon fiber and Toray's proprietary thermoset resin systems enables higher performance in compression, flexure, damping, and damage tolerance properties which, in turn, provide our customers significant opportunity for part and structural light-weighting.
The addition of boron fiber will deliver a 2-3x improvement of all compression-related properties, including open-hole compression (OHC) and compression after impact (CAI).
As demonstrated in the graph to the left, Hy-Bor can deliver >450 Ksi (>3,100 MPa) compression strength.

Other combinations of boron fiber, carbon fiber, and resin systems are available upon request. A non-inclusive list of fiber options include TORAYCA™ M46X, M46J, M55J, T1100, T800, or T700, as well as Toray resin systems including TC250, TC275-1, TC350, TC380, TC410, TC420, RS-3C, or RS-8HT.
About Our Strategic Partnership
In October 2022, Specialty Materials and Toray Advanced Composites announced a joint collaboration program to strengthen their commercial partnership and create the next-generation of high-performance hybrid prepregs tailored with Specialty Materials’ boron fiber, TORAYCA™ T1100G carbon fiber, and multiple Toray resin systems to enhance structural efficiency of composite structures such as spars, longerons, rotors, and control surfaces by tuning compression and stiffness properties.
Since that time, the relationship has expanded to include more combinations of standard, immediate, and high modulus carbon fiber with varying boron fiber volumes tuned to application-specific requirements.
